YES, I TAKE COMMISSIONS!
I have a couple openings between now and the end of February 2026
WHY COMMISSION A PAINTING?
Commissions are personal and meaningful! Here’s some occasions you might commission a painting:
-
There’s much to celebrate that can be commemorated by a painting! A new baby, a confirmation, an ordination, retirement, and anniversary, a new season of life…
-
It won’t be long before their furniture is arranged and then they look up at their empty wall space. A commissioned painting is a thoughtful way to make a house a home by bringing in some imagery that is meaningful to them.
-
You yourself might have an empty space on the wall! If you want more intentionality than filling it with just anything, and you don’t want to wait around for the perfect thing to appear, then you might consider a custom piece.
-
Sometimes you might want to bring more thought into your home - the space you live most, and which you want to remind you of what really matters. A commissioned artwork that represents your values can be a beautiful way to make your space more intentional.
-
A scene that represents something about your business, or a painting that perfectly adds to the environment you hope to create.
-
A painting of something that holds special meaning for someone who is aging could be a impactful gift for someone going through memory loss.
What kind of subject matter?
The sky’s the limit, really! But to get your imagination flowing, I’ll share some ideas from past commissions I’ve done, as well as other ideas.
A past home
A place that holds special meaning: The lakeshore, a mountain, a scene your business customers will recognize, a tree from the backyard, the view from a certain place…
Items that hold special/symbolic meaning: A flower, a bird, a historic figure or monument…
An imagined place/thing: Something you want to bring to reality, and you want a painting to help keep the vision alive.
Some sort of scene you generally love: light pouring through pine trees, a misty morning, the seashore in certain weather, the fall foliage…
Painting based on the meaning of a name: I have a client who commissions me to pray about their children’s names when they are born, and make a painting based off the meaning.
Something based on a loose idea: You might just have a meaning or sentiment you want to capture, you can bring me those raw thoughts and we can work together to come up with the subject matter!
Something that connects you to God: Maybe something he’s done in your life, or something about your faith you want to remember.
Here’s a few examples of recent projects:
WHat’s the Process?
Here’s what you can expect-
Step 1: Contact me
Send me an email with a few basics about your idea, I can’t wait to hear about it!
I’ll send you a follow-up form with some questions AbOUT YOUR PROJECT IDEA AND WHAT’s MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU - this will get our conversation started.
Step 2: Consultation
Once you’ve answered the questions through the form, I’ll set up a consultation with you to discuss your idea more in depth. From there I’ll come up with an initial estimate for timeline and pricing for the project. There is zero commitment at this point, we’re just getting a sense for the project and determining whether I’m a good fit for the idea you have in mind.
Step 3: Agreement
Based on our conversation, I’ll draw up an agreement with specific information regarding agreed upon timeline, copyright and ownership, upfront deposit amount and final price. If you’d like to move ahead with the commission, you’ll sign the agreement to reserve the project start date, pay a 40% deposit when we’re 1 month out from the beginning of the project, and we’ll get things rolling when the project start date rolls around!
Step 4: Then the fun!
I’ll stay in contact with you and give you updates as I work! There will be 2 main communication points. Once early on, when I’ve made initial sketches/mock-ups of the idea we have in mind. I’ll make sure your happy with the direction before moving onto the real painting. The Second point of contact will be when I determine the painting ‘informally complete’, at which point I’ll show you where its at and make sure its what you’re hoping for. I’ll make any changes based on your suggestions. Once you’re happy with how it looks, I’ll send you the final invoice and have your artwork securely delivered!
Other FAQs
-
My go-to paint medium these days is acrylic, and I’ve begun painting solely on archival RayMar Panels for commissions unless a different request is made by the client. I’m not familiar enough with oils to paint commissions in oil paint. Sometimes I can paint with watercolor, or make a drawing with pencils, pastels, or colored pencils, but its more of an exception than the norm. Reach out if you have a question about whether I can do what you’re thinking!
-
Great question! It does greatly depend on the project, but I can give you a general range to give you an idea. These prices are for average-complexity paintings in acrylic, painted in a style that I’m familiar with.
9”x12” - $730
16”x20” - $1150
18”x24” - $1510
20”x30” - $2100
24” x 36” - 3020
I’ll email you a specific quote for your project after our ‘consultation’ step.
-
Not as often, but I’ve had several figure-based commissions recently, and am confident in my ability based on past figure study work I did while in college.
-
In this season I’m fairly open to a wide range of subject matters. I do require that the subject fit within my values though, as the painting comes from my own heart as much as it begins with your idea. I won’t paint subject matter that is at odds with my faith or morals.
Otherwise I’m happy to consider a wide range of subject matter, and I’ll tell you honestly if the style you suggest or subject itself is outside of my comfort zone to paint well.
-
It depends on a couple factors:
1) How large/complex your project is
2) What else I’m working on during that season
I often have multiple projects going at one time, and if I’m already spread somewhat thin I’ll spread your project out over the course of more time.
I’ll always communicate a timeline with you before you sign an agreement, and I try to accommodate your timing preferences when I can, especially if you have a project with a deadline, ie a Christmas gift.
Generally expect between 1-4 months for an average project.

Not a problem! That’s part of my job, to provide the right prompts and language for us to come to a joint understanding, or to help flesh out your idea if you’re not entirely sure what you want. The sketch/mock-up phase can be helpful especially if you’re not able to visual exactly what you want on your own, as it gives us some visuals to discuss.
